Vandalized Silent Hill 2 Wikipedia Page Locked Down

The Silent Hill 2 remake has received a positive reception from critics overall, but it seems that the most contentious corners of the fanbase aren’t thrilled with it. As spotted by Eurogamer, Wikipedia has had to lock down the remake’s page after a swarm of users vandalized the listed review scores.

During the weekend, the Silent Hill subreddit took notice of the incident. The Reception section of the Wikipedia page was the main target, which aggregates the percentage score of OpenCritic and GameSpot sister site Metacritic, as well as individual review scores from a few publications. It showcased a Metacritic score of 27/100, compared to the current 87/100 mark, as well as “0/10” and “0/5” reviews. In GameSpot’s Silent Hill 2 remake review, Mark Delaney gave it a 9/10, for example, but it was changed to 2/10 on the vandalized page.

At the time of publication, the correct review scores have been restored. The reception section has a stub saying that “the section needs expansion,” but if you opt to add to it, a message warns that the page has been locked down. “While most articles can be edited by anyone, semi-protection is sometimes necessary to prevent vandalism to popular pages,” the message reads. In the Protection log, the latest entry lists “persistent disruptive editing” as the reason for locking down the page. According to the entry, it will remain as is until October 9.
