Nintendo Museum Puts Limits On Gift-Store Merch To Discourage Scalpers

The Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, Japan has only been open to the public for two days, but there are already scalpers who have put up the museum’s exclusive merchandise for sale online at greatly inflated prices. That’s why the Nintendo Museum has limited a number of its gift-store items to one per customer.

As reported by The Verge, the Nintendo Museum shared a message on social media that announced the limits on merch including controller-shaped cushions, miniature controller keychain collections, and more. That’s not too surprising after items like the Nintendo Museum Kyoto Wii Controller cushion have shown up on eBay for nearly $500. There’s no guarantee that the scalpers will get their asking price, but the merch limits will hopefully cut down on those kind of listings from the same sellers.

Given Nintendo’s generation-spanning popularity, the demand for the museum’s merchandise may even increase after the new restrictions. The Nintendo Museum has already had to limit the number of people it can admit, and tickets have reportedly been claimed through the end of this year.
