PS6 Powered By Familiar Chipmaker – Report

The PS5 Pro isn’t even out yet, but that’s not stopping a new report from divulging possible details about what’s inside the PS6. Sony apparently met with Intel and AMD–among others–about powering its next generation of hardware. The company is supposedly staying with AMD once more.

According to Reuters, Intel made a big push to land a deal with Sony that could have generated $30 billion for the American technology company. Negotiations picked up in 2022 with meetings between Sony and Intel, per the report, but profit margins per chip supposedly became a sticking point.

That led the way for AMD to apparently win the deal with Sony for the PS6–though keep in mind nothing has been officially announced. Earlier this month, AMD revealed it was skipping flagship GPUs for its next generation, sparking speculation on whether the company may already have plans with Sony and Microsoft for future hardware. AMD currently helps power PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. GameSpot has reached out to Sony for comment.
