The key takeaway with the Five Nights at Freddy’s film is that it’s a PG-13 horror, one that proved to be a huge success with kids when it landed in cinemas last year. An adaptation of the cult-classic video games, the film focuses on a security guard working the night-shift in a a decrepit Chuck E Cheese knock-off and has to survive a night of terror when ghost-children possess giant robots. It’s weird, but effective, horror thanks to all the talent involved in this production.
“When the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie is able to just be that–and it is most of the time–it’s a lot of fun,” Phil Owens wrote in GameSpot’s Five Nights at Freddy’s review. “Creepy and weird animatronic nonsense is a really funny part of our culture and is an excellent idea for a movie. But it can’t manage to just be that, because the franchise has grown a ton since this project first began.”
After Five Nights at Freddy’s broke box office records and became Blumhouse’s highest-grossing movie of all time–it earned more than $291 million globally–a sequel was quickly greenlit and is scheduled to arrive in Fall 2025. If you don’t feel like waiting until October for Walmart’s fancy edition of the movie, you can pick up the Five Nights at Freddy’s: Night Shift Edition for $17 at Amazon. This includes the 4K cut of the film, a digital streaming code, and plenty of behind-the-scenes content to watch.
The new edition of film comes on the heels of Mega Cat Studios’ pixelated horror-adventure, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit. The retro-style side-scroller has been well-received by ways, as it currently holds an “Overwhelmingly Positive” user review average on Steam.
