Epic Mickey: Rebrushed Paints The Town Red, Blue, And Every Other Color In New Trailer

After spending 14 years as a Wii exclusive, Disney’s Epic Mickey is making its way to new platforms in September. A new trailer for the game was revealed during the THQ Nordic showcase, and as you’d imagine, developer Purple Lamp’s efforts have made the Mickey Mouse adventure pop beautifully on modern systems. It certainly does look a lot better than the 480p version on your dusty Wii console!

At its core, Epic Mickey is about forgotten characters and bringing them back into the spotlight: a fitting theme considering how the original game was on a “critically endangered” list last year. As Mickey, players will explore a strange and alternate version of Disneyland that is populated by characters who have been lost to time, like Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Horace Horsecollar, and Clarabelle Cow. In this world, Mickey wields a magical paintbrush that can erase the past or restore it, and it’s up to him to responsibly wield that power.

While this a fun all-ages game, there’s a lot of meta-commentary about Mickey’s success as the face of Disney since 1928 and the impact that had on the characters around him. Beyond the interesting story and enhanced graphics, this one-to-one remake of the platforming adventure will also feature improved controls, and if you’re looking to grab it, you can check out our Epic Mickey: Rebrushed preorder guide for details on the versions available.
