The Best Original Xbox Controller Returns Next Month, And Preorders Are Live
Hyperkin is launching a new Xbox controller modeled after the iconic Xbox Controller S, and preorders are now open ahead of its August 21 release. The officially licensed gamepad–dubbed the Duchess Wired Controller in a fun callback to the Xbox’s controller’s “Duke” nickname–works on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC, and it pulls design cues from its old-school namesake that first hit the market back in 2002.

Finding an original Xbox Controller S is nearly impossible nowadays, making the upcoming Duchess Wired Controller the best way to relive the glory days of the original Xbox. Built with Hall Effect sticks to resist drift, a slightly reworked form factor for improved ergonomics, and a built-in Share button that works with Xbox Series X, the controller is a nice blend of retro style and modern convenience.
The Dutchess also has a 3.5mm jack and bumpers that serve as Black and White buttons from the original Xbox pad (which are still awkwardly placed beneath the face buttons). These controllers aren’t wireless, but they do come with a 10-foot detachable braided USB-C cable for a low-latency play experience. The Duchess Wired Controller is available in black or white, both of which are officially licensed by Xbox.
The Duchess isn’t the first retro Xbox controller designed by Hyperkin, as the brand is also responsible for the Duke Wired Controller. This one is modeled after the original, ultra-bulky Xbox controller that was the predecessor to the Xbox Controller S. If you want to add it to your collection, you’ll find it on sale at Amazon for just $60 (down from $90).
