Inside Out 2 Passes Dune 2 To Become 2024’s Highest Grossing Movie

For the last few years, Pixar’s animated flicks haven’t struck box office gold in the way that the studio’s earlier films did. Last year’s Elemental proved to have legs, but Inside Out 2 is the comeback that Pixar was hoping for. After opening last weekend with$154.4 million, Inside Out 2 is estimated to have added $100 million this past weekend, making it only the seventh film to hit that milestone in its second weekend. Now, Inside Out 2 has officially passed Dune: Part Two to become the highest grossing movie of 2024.

Via Deadline, Inside Out 2’s new running totals are $355 million domestically, and $724 million worldwide. By comparison, Dune: Part Two had $282 million domestically, and $711 million worldwide. Inside Out 2’s continuing dominance could mean that next weekend’s new arrival, A Quiet Place: Day One, may have to settle for second place.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die continued to perform well in second place with $18.7 million in its third weekend, which brings its total to $146.9 million. The Bikeriders made its debut with a third place finish and $10 million. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes edged closer to the end of its second month at the box office by coming in fourth place with $3.7 million. Thus far, the latest Planet of the Apes film has $164.4 million. Rounding out the top five, The Garfield Movie added $3.6 million to its new $85.1 million total.
