MultiVersus Director Criticizes Dataminers For Being Spoilsports

MultiVersus director Tony Huynh has criticized dataminers for spoiling upcoming content in the game, including the reveal of future fighters and stages. Dataminers have regularly trawled through lines of game code to uncover information on unreleased content, and Huynh says that these leaks leave the developers and fans of Multiversus feeling deflated when they’re robbed of a surprise reveal.

“It is an arms race, so it’ll be constant protections against new and creative ways to datamine,” Huynh said to VGC about the efforts to safeguard information on the game. “At the end of the day, we’ve done a lot, we’ve learned a lot, but again, it is an arms race. “I can’t promise that there won’t ever be leaks or anything like that. But on our end, we’ve done–I think–above and beyond what industry standards and protections there are.”

Huynh also spoke about how the efforts of dataminers to break through these protective systems were both impressive and unfortunate for his team. “It’s deflating for the team as well,” Huynh said, lamenting the fact that the MultiVersus team couldn’t do a grand reveal and that “a lot of the air is sucked out of the room” because of dataminers. “But these things happen, so we’re trying to prevent them from occurring in the future,” he concluded.
