Mario Kart Ride-On Racers Recalled After Design Flaw Leads To Crashes

Toymaker JAKKS Pacific has recalled roughly 17,500 of its Mario Kart Ride-On Racers due to an issue with the car’s acceleration pedal, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. When the battery-powered kiddie-car’s acceleration pedal is clogged with debris like dirt and leaves, it can become stuck, preventing the car’s young drivers from safely stopping the vehicle.

According to the CPSC website, “The firm has received 65 reports of incidents of debris-clogged pedals sticking, of which 15 of the vehicles crashed into permanent structures with one minor injury, a chafed hand.”

The kid-sized, Power Wheels-esque cars first launched in October 2022, and retail for $400 USD. The CPSC has stated that Ride-On Racers that are currently being sold do not have the acceleration pedal defect, and are safe to drive. The following models are included in the recall:
