Oppenheimer Star Cillian Murphy’s Next Movie Announced, Adapts Real-Life Murder Story

After starring in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and earning an Academy Award for it, movie star Cillian Murphy’s next movie role has been announced. He will star in and produce Blood Runs Coal, which is an adaptation of a 2020 book, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Like Oppenheimer–which has grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide–Universal will distribute the film.

The movie is based on the book Blood Runs Coal: The Yablonski Murders and the Battle of the United Mine Workers of America from author Mark. A Bradley. The book tells the story of the 1969 murder of Joseph “Jock” Yablonski, a union organizer who campaigned against a corrupt union boss. Yablonski and his wife and daughter were all murdered in the triple homicide.

It’s not immediately clear what role Murphy will play, but it could be the title role. Other casting announcements for the film have not been made, nor is there any word on a director or release date.
